After 30 Years with Hästens, the Cosma Family Launches a New Era for Luxury Beds in Oslo

After nearly 30 years with Hästens, the Cosma family is expanding its professional perspective with Nattiluxe and Vispring — two international brands that each represent a strong tradition in handmade luxury beds without foam or latex.

After nearly three decades as Norway’s most experienced name in luxury bed retail, Cosma is marking a new phase for the family business. From its store at Skøyen, the Cosma family now brings together a curated selection of international bed brands in one cohesive concept: Hvile by Cosma (Meaning Rest by Cosma). The common thread is clear: handmade luxury beds in natural materials, without foam or latex.

Terje Cosma began selling Hästens in 1997. Together with his wife, Anne Marie, he later established Hästens Store Oslo and, over many years, built a strong position in the Norwegian market for handmade luxury beds. Later, the next generation, André and Aleksander Cosma, also joined the family business.

That experience is now being carried forward in a new format. “After many years working with the most discerning customers in the market, we can clearly see that their needs have evolved. Customers still want natural materials, documented craftsmanship and long-lasting quality. At the same time, they are asking for greater freedom in comfort, a higher degree of customization and a more refined aesthetic expression,” says Terje Cosma.

From Hästens Expertise to a Broader Luxury Perspective

Hvile by Cosma today represents Nattiluxe, Vispring and Hästens. The goal is not to offer as many brands as possible, but to bring together a precise selection for customers seeking the highest level of comfort, material quality, aesthetics and personal customization.

Vispring represents the traditional British luxury bed. The brand has been a leading international name in handmade beds since 1901 and is known as one of Hästens’ most established competitors in the upper end of the market. Vispring is especially associated with pocket springs, British craftsmanship and natural materials such as wool, silk, horsetail hair and cashmere.

Nattiluxe enters as a new alternative for customers seeking a more tailored expression. The brand was founded by a former director at Hästens, with experience working with both Hästens and Vispring, and combines cashmere, silk and wool with Swedish steel springs and selected materials from European craft traditions in countries including Italy, France, Belgium, Spain and Germany. With its focus on customization and timeless aesthetics, Nattiluxe is particularly well suited to modern interior design projects.

Together, Nattiluxe, Vispring and Hästens give Hvile by Cosma a broader and more precise advisory platform than a traditional monobrand concept.

“When you have worked with luxury beds for nearly 30 years, you also see where the market is moving. Customers compare more, set higher standards and want to understand the differences between construction, materials and comfort philosophies. Our role is to give them a better foundation for choosing correctly,” says Anne Marie.

Natural Materials Without Foam or Latex

A clear part of Hvile by Cosma’s new positioning is its focus on beds without foam or latex. The concept is aimed at customers who want natural materials, good ventilation, temperature regulation and long-lasting quality instead of synthetic comfort layers.

For Hvile by Cosma, this is not only about new brands, but about a clearer professional direction. After many years in the market, the Cosma family sees a growing need for beds where materials, construction, comfort and aesthetics are considered together.

For interior architects and designers, this opens up a more complete process, where the bed’s comfort, textiles, height, proportions and visual expression can be adapted to the room as a whole.

A New Generation in the Family Business

With André and Aleksander Cosma now part of the company, the legacy of Terje and Anne Marie Cosma is being carried forward with a clear view toward a more international and interior-driven market.

The new generation sees a growing need for solutions where sleep quality and aesthetics are treated as one whole. This is especially relevant for customers investing in architect-designed homes, private residences, cabins, hotels and projects where the bed must be as carefully considered as the rest of the interior.

“We are building on the experience our parents created, but the market has changed. Customers want more personal customization, greater aesthetic freedom and a clearer understanding of the materials they sleep in. That is why we have developed Hvile by Cosma as a curated multibrand concept,” says Aleksander Cosma.
